About the retreat
Vrindavan experience in the west
New Vraja Dhama is one of the largest and most developed ISKCON farm communities in the western world and the largest sustainable ecological farm in Europe. Set in 300 hectares of land, in an unassuming remote village in the Hungarian countryside, New Vraja Dhama was established in 1993 by Srila Sivarama Swami and the growing community of devotees in Hungary, in order to exhibit the famous maxim coined by Srila Prabhupada: simple living high thinking.
The installation of Sri Sri Radha Syamasundara a few years later cemented the identity of Krishna Valley as not just a farm project, but a dhama, a holy place where pure devotional service to Their Lordships is central. The greater the depth and purity of that service, the more Their Lordships become present and active in Their abode.
Over subsequent years, the area of New Vraja Dhama was mapped out in great detail to include all the holy places that can be found in Sri Vrindavan Dhama, India. Over 600 pastime places have been established, so one can visit the Yamuna River, Nandagrama, Varsana, Javat, Mathura, and much more, all in the heart of the Hungarian countryside!
At New Vraja Dhama, every year, local residents celebrate the important month of Kartik by going on parikramas around the vast area where the Holy places are spread. We invite you to join us in this special opportunity. Parikramas will take place throughout the month of Kartik in both spontaneous and structured formats, and you can choose when to participate. Join us for a week-long intense Kartik experience during our Kartik Parikrama Retreat, or come at any time throughout the month to join whatever parikramas are happening. Note that, except during the retreat week, parikramas will not take place every single day.
Participants on the week-long retreat will join us on a journey through Vrindavana, to all the wonderful holy places that one would expect to visit during Vrindvana parkirama in India, and hear the mesmerising pastimes associated with these locations. During this week we will have 2 parikramas daily, for more details, please check the daily schedule below.
We invite you to immerse yourself in a Vrindavan experience, here, in the heart of Europe. There is no need to go to India when all the holy places of India have already come to you!
